The seventeenth-century era
According to what Marquis de Rochegude reported, famous landscape architect André Le Nôtre (1613 – 1700) – a courtier of the Sun King, inventor of the French formal garden as well as designer of the Gardens of Versailles – had a country house right close to the hotel. Le Nôtre loved living in this area because of its quiet, secluded position.
From Rue de Joinville to Rue du Cirque
In 1847, after the fall of the “July Monarchy” (1830-1848), the historic Rue de Joinville – where today is located the Splendide – is renamed Rue du Cirque because of the summer circus erected in Marigny des Champs-Élysées Square (demolished around the year 1900).
In the beginning a hôtel particulier
The building now housing the Hotel Splendide is born in 1897 as hôtel particulier, a word which identifies a typical Parisian house, large and luxurious, where a single family lives. Pierre Cardin, the famous cutting-edge stylist who died in 2020, was the owner of many real estates in Paris, including the building that houses the Splendide.
The beginning of a new splendid age
After Lugano and Rome, on December 2016 the Roberto Naldi Collection hotel group inaugurates a facility also in Paris: the Hôtel Splendide Royal Paris officially opens at number 18, Rue du Cirque, in one of Paris’ most luxurious and elegant districts.
In the same year, the 5-star luxury hotel joins the eminent Relais & Châteaux group, a network of luxury hotels and gourmet restaurants which counts about 500 facilities all over the world.
A new gourmet gem
In the early 2017 the Splendide inaugurates its restaurant: La Tosca is born as a chic Italian bistrot that offers a contemporary Mediterranean cuisine. In 2023 the cuisine crowns its success with important awards: three hats in the Gault & Millau restaurant guide and a recommendation in the Michelin Guide. In the same year, it reaches 29th place in the 2023 list of the World’s 50 Best Italian Restaurants.
